It's a marshmallow world in the winter...

Woof! I have a headache, but at least it was for a good cause.
This morning we woke up early, me at 8:00 (if you can believe it) and John was up even earlier!
We putzed around the house for an hour or two, before going into town to meet some friends of ours for sledding. We went up to Schauinsland (the place mountain that we took Jim and Faith to while they were here), and rode the cable cars up. It was a clear day and we had an amazing view of not only the Alps but the entire city of Freiburg as well.

It was an unglaublich warm day. I'd say it was almost in the 50s. The snow was perfect for packing and we had a great time making snowmen (and snowwoman (she bore a slight resemblance to Dolly Parton made of snow)) and throwing snowballs at eachother.
When we first arrived at the top of the mountain we all rented sleds. They have really weird sleds here. They are like the runner sled that we used to have when I was a kid, but they're a lot clunkier and higher off the ground. No matter what we did, the one that John and I had careened to the right. This was unfortunate because the good sledding path was on the left side. We tried everything but there was really no good way to steer the dumb thing. We usually ended up in a big heap. It really made me miss our toboggan. Man we could've flown on that thing. There is talk of us buying our own cheap plastic sled and turtle waxing it. I'm very excited.

Then we played King of the Mountain. I'm a little too competitive I think, but that's OK so is our friend Tricia. She and I were in a serious battle. She had an advantage because she's taller than I am, and therefore has longer arms. I had the advantage because I'm short and could take her down at the knees. Jennifer also put up a good fight. Man oh Man am I sore. I realize that I"m only 23, but I am beginning to think that that is a little too old to roll over backwards down a snow mountain and land on my head.

John and I were supposed to meet up with another couple of friends this afternoon, but we had problems catching the Schauinsland bus, and once we did catch it, we sat in the parking lot for 15-20 minutes before going back down to catch the train. I was pretty disappointed that we didn't get to say goodbye to our friend Caitlin, who is going home for the break.

Since we've been home I've been making travel plans and reading a book. Having free time is such a luxury!
