Tonight as I was driving home from work, I had this intense craving for mom's chocolate cake. You remember the one... fresh, warm, moist, tasty... the one where almost 1/2 the cake was gone before it was frosted... Thats the cake that I wanted.
And then the frostening... mom had this way with the frostening. She never EVER could seem to make the same frostening twice. Sometimes it was like hard fudge on the top of the cake. Other times it was so thin almost like a glaze. But it had the absolutely best flavor in the world.
I thought for sure her secret "recipe" was burried with her much like grandma's scallop corn recipe. But alas, it turns out that the secret to the chocolate frostening was "passed on"! So with a few of the flourchil's tips to make an ordinary box cake even more moist, and a few magic tricks of my own from when I was a baker, I have a chocolate cake that would have mom coming back from the other world to enjoy!
(I personally think that the intense craving that I had was a result of mom wanting some chocolate cake... but that's a another blog.)
And who would have thought that it was a regular ol box cake mix with the frostening recipe on the back of the cocoa powder box! Amazing.
Thanks for FINALLY giving us access to the site! ***kisses***
