Our friend Joe has written a musical about the life and struggles and triumphs of Iowa farmers, called Farm Song. The play will run in the M Shop at the Memorial Union at Iowa State some time during the middle of April. Joe and his sisters have a really great band called Pump town and are a really talented group. We saw them at the State Fair last year, and were very impressed with them. They are all doing this musical together. This musical is great because it champions a group of people who often do not get enough credit in today's high-paced and money-hungry society.
Check out the musical's website at: www.famersong.com
If you are in Iowa and can check out the musical, I would really recommend it, it is a really great cause to support.

Contrary to what I said on the home page, I am freakin'. Whooooooooo........ *sigh*. I have to remember to keep breathing, otherwise the impending stress makes me forget and I seize up and fall over like a fainting goat. There is some excitement mixed in, but mostly there is fear. I'm looking forward to moving, because I love moving, but all other aspects are unknown and therefore very scary.
I am hoping that the other AYF'ers (Academic Year in Freiburg) will be friendly and that we will immediately fall in to a new group of friends. You should all send me emails of encouragement :)
PS... You will have to forgive my lax spelling ability. Since learning German my English spelling has been completely lost. It's too complicated. So you will just have to deal with it. I'm sure it'll get worse and worse as I get more accustomed to German,( a language whose spelling rules actually make sense). Just read what I write phonetically and excuse me if I capitalize things in seemingly weird places.

Hello All!
I hope that you are all enjoying the end of your summer as it quickly slips through our fingers into fall.
Things are going well for us. Currently, (as of August 1st) we are homeless, jobless bums who would be living out of our car if it weren't for kindness of others. :-) This week we are living in Ames with Aubrey, Michael and Aeris. Their sun porch is lovely and cool and is perfect for sleeping. Much better than our Corolla.
While we are in Iowa we have been thoroughly enjoying the Iowa State Fair. So far this week, we've been there 5 days! Amazing, isn't it? We've seen a lot of really cool stuff, including rolling pigeons and the fiddle contest (which is always a favorite).
